✧ The ring

- وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ: حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنِ الْعَوَامِّ، عَنْ أَزْهَرَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ قَالَ:

[ كَانَ] أَنَسٌ ؓ إِذَا حَدَّثَ أَصْحَابَهُ بِحَدِيثٍ لَا يَدْرُونَ مَا هُوَ، أَتَوُا الْحَسَنَ ؓ فَفَسَّرَهُ لَهُمْ. فَفَسَّرَ لَهُمُ الْحَسَنُ يَوْمًا حَدِيثَ: لَا تَنْقُشُوا فِي خَوَاتِمِكُمْ عَرَبِيًّا "، أَيْ: " لَا تَنْقُشُوا مُحَمَّدًا

Translation

✧ When Anas ؓ related a hadith to his companions that they did not understand, they would go to al-Hasan ؓ and he would explain it to them. One day al-Hasan explained to them the hadith: 'Do not engrave Arabic on your rings,' meaning: 'Do not engrave Muhammad.'
