✧ Delaying Maghrib prayer to observe the crescent on the night of fasting or Eid

الْحَارِثُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثَنَا حَيْوَةُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ:
السُّنَّةُ لَيْلَةً يُنْظَرُ إِلَى هِلَالِ رَمَضَانَ لِلصِّيَامِ أَوْ لِلْفِطْرِ: يُؤَذَّنُ لِصَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ لِوَقْتِهَا، ثُمَّ تُؤَخَّرُ الْإِقَامَةُ، حَتَّى يُرَى الْهِلَالُ، أَوْ يُوأَسَ مِنْهُ، وَيَبْدُوَ بَعْضُ النُّجُومِ

✧ The sunnah is that on the night when the crescent of Ramadan is looked for, for the fasting or for the breaking of the fast, the adhan for the Maghrib prayer is called at its time, then the iqamah is delayed until the crescent is seen or it is despaired of, and some stars appear.
