✧ Supplication in the Funeral Prayer

إِسْحَاقُ: أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ - ؓ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا جِيءَ بِالْمَيِّتِ فَوُضِعَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ اسْتَقْبَلَهُمْ بِوَجْهِهِ قَالَ: إِنَّكُمْ جِئْتُمْ شُفَعَاءَ، فَاشْفَعُوا لَهُ، فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مِائَةُ رَجُلٍ أُمَّةٌ، وَلَنْ تَجْتَمِعَ أُمَّةٌ فَيُخْلِصُونَ الدُّعَاءَ لِمَيِّتِهِمْ إِلَّا وَهَبَ اللهُ لَهُمْ ذُنُوبَهُ، وَغَفَرَ لَهُمْ.

✧ When the deceased was brought and placed before him, he would face them and say: 'You have come as intercessors, so intercede for him, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: A hundred men are an ummah, and an ummah will not gather sincerely supplicating for their deceased but that Allah grants them his sins and forgives them.'
