Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu Ubayd, the mawla of Sulayman ibn Abd al-Malik, from Ata ibn Yazid al-Laythi that Abu Hurayra said, "Whoever says 'Glory be to Allah' (Subhana'llah) thirty- three times and 'Allah is Greater' (Allahu akbar) thirty-three times and 'Praise be to Allah' (al-hamdu lillah) thirty-three times, and seals the hundred with 'There is no god but Allah, alone without any partner. The Kingdom and praise belong to Him and He has power over everything' (La ilaha illa'llah, wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu'l mulku wa lahu'l hamd, wa huwa ala kulli shay'in qadir) after every prayer will have his wrong actions forgiven him even if they are abundant as the foam on the sea."

machine translationHe was asked about the hadith of ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd al-Laythī, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever glorifies God (sabbaḥa) thirty-three times after every prayer, and praises Him thirty-three times..." to the end of the hadith. He said: It is narrated by Abū ʿUbayd, the chamberlain of Sulaymān, whose name is Ḥayy, from him (ʿAṭāʾ). Mālik and Suhayl b. Abī Ṣāliḥ related it from him, and there is disagreement concerning both of them. As for Mālik, the people of the Muwaṭṭaʾ narrated it from him, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd, from Abū Hurayrah as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf). Yaḥyā b. Ṣāliḥ and Abū Muʿādh Khālid b. Sulaymān al-Balkhī raised it (rafaʿa) from Mālik to the Prophet ﷺ, but the sound report from Mālik is that it is mawqūf. As for Suhayl b. Abī Ṣāliḥ, Fulayḥ b. Sulaymān narrated it from him, and there is disagreement concerning him. Surayj b. al-Nuʿmān and Ibn Abī al-Wazīr narrated it from Fulayḥ, from Suhayl, from Abū ʿUbayd, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, raised (marfūʿ). Abū al-Rabīʿ al-Zahrānī differed from them: he narrated it from Fulayḥ, from Suhayl, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yazīd, from Abū Hurayrah, raising it, and he dropped Abū ʿUbayd. Ḥammād b. Salamah, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Ḥāzim and Khālid b. ʿAbdullāh narrated it from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, marfūʿ, without mentioning Abū ʿUbayd, and they added Abū Ṣāliḥ. Ismāʿīl b. Zakariyyā narrated it from Suhayl, from Abū ʿUbayd, from ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, and he erred in saying ʿAṭāʾ b. Yasār. Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal said this, from Muḥammad b. al-Ṣabbāḥ, from Ismāʿīl b. Zakariyyā.

machine translationThus this hadith is mawqūf in the Muwaṭṭaʾ on Abū Hurayrah, yet the like of it cannot be known by opinion, and it is raised (marfūʿ) and sound from the Prophet ﷺ through many firmly established routes.
