  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIt is an error (wahm) by Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd. A group of memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) among the students of Sufyān did not mention it, and likewise the students of Manṣūr narrated it from him, and none of them said "spit behind you".

  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationImam Aḥmad rejected this wording, "behind you".

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationYaḥyā erred in his saying "behind you", and the memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) among the students of al-Thawrī contradicted him: Wakīʿ, ʿAbd al-Razzāq, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, al-Firyābī and others. The students of Manṣūr also narrated it from Manṣūr, and none of them said "and spit behind you". This is among the things counted against Yaḥyā.
