machine translationThis report contradicts the report of ʿAbd al-Karīm from Mujāhid, because in this report the donkey was only behind the ʿanazah (short spear), and the Prophet ﷺ had planted the ʿanazah in front of him at ʿArafah and prayed towards it. But in the report of ʿAbd al-Karīm from Mujāhid he said: "while he was praying the obligatory prayer, with nothing screening him that would come between us and him." The report of ʿAbd al-Karīm and the report of al-Ḥakam b. Abān are close to each other in terms of transmission, because the people of knowledge of hadith have spoken about relying on the report of ʿAbd al-Karīm, and likewise the report of al-Ḥakam b. Abān. However, the report of al-Ḥakam b. Abān is supported by reports from the Prophet ﷺ that are sound in terms of transmission, while the report of ʿAbd al-Karīm from Mujāhid is refuted by sound reports in terms of transmission from the Prophet ﷺ. This act that ʿAbd al-Karīm mentioned from Mujāhid from Ibn ʿAbbās is established from the Prophet ﷺ as something he forbade, in the report of Sahl b. Abī Ḥathmah that the Prophet ﷺ said: "When one of you prays, let him pray towards a sutrah (screen) and let him draw near to it, so that the Devil does not cut off his prayer."
