✧ I sat in the market of Madinah in the forenoon with Abu Usayd Malik b. Rabi'ah and Abu Humayd, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, both from his clan of Banu Sa'idah, and with Abu Qatadah al-Harith b. Rib'i. Some of them said to the others, while I was listening: “I know more about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ than you two.” Each said it to his companion. They said to one of them: “Stand and lead us in prayer so that we may see whether you get the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ right or not.” One of them stood facing the qiblah, then said the takbir, then recited some of the Qur'an, then bowed, placing his hands on his knees firmly until every bone of his was at rest. Then he raised his head and stood upright until every bone of his returned to its place. Then he said: “Allah hears the one who praises Him.” Then he fell prostrate on his forehead, his palms, his knees, and the balls of his feet, keeping his hands away from his sides until I saw the whiteness of his armpits beneath his shoulders. Then he remained until every bone of his was at rest. Then he raised his head and sat upright on his heels and the balls of his feet until every bone of his returned to its place. Then he repeated that. He said: Then he stood and performed another rak'ah like it. He said: Then he said the salam and turned to his two companions, saying to them: “How did you see it?” They said: “You got the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ right. This is how he used to pray.”
