أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ كُرَيْبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ، أَوْ زَيْدَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ - شَكَّ هِشَامٌ - قَالَ لِمَرْوَانَ - وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ الْمَدِينَةِ -: إِنَّكَ تُخِفُّ الْقِرَاءَةَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمَغْرِبِ، فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا بِسُورَةِ الْأَعْرَافِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ جَمِيعًا

✧ Abū Ayyūb, or Zayd b. Thābit—Hishām was uncertain—said to Marwān, while he was the governor of Madinah: 'You make the recitation light in the two units of Maghrib. By God, the Messenger of God ﷺ used to recite Sūrat al-Aʿrāf in both of those two units together.'
