أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُزَيْزٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ، أَنَّ سَلَامَةَ بْنَ رَوْحٍ، حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ. قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ - ﷺ
أَصْبَحَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ وَهُوَ وَاجِمٌ يُنْكَرُ مَا يُرَى مِنْهُ، فَسَأَلَتْهُ عَمَّا أَنْكَرَتْ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: وَعَدَنِي جِبْرِيلُ أَنْ يَلْقَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ، فَلَمْ أَرَهُ. أَمَا وَاللهِ مَا أَخْلَفَنِي. قَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ: وَكَانَ فِي بَيْتِي جَرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ نَضَدٍ لَنَا، فَأَخْرَجَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، ثُمَّ نَضَحَ مَكَانَهُ بِالْمَاءِ بِيَدِهِ "، فَلَمَّا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " وَعَدْتَنِي، ثُمَّ لَمْ أَرَكَ، فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ صُورَةٌ وَلَا كَلْبٌ

✧ One day he awoke troubled, and what was seen from him was unrecognizable. She asked him about what she had found objectionable in him, and he said to her: "Jibril promised me that he would meet me tonight, but I did not see him. By Allah, he did not break his promise to me." Maymunah said: There was a puppy in my house under a couch of ours, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took it out, and then sprinkled its place with water with his hand. When night came, Jibril met him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "You promised me, but I did not see you." Jibril said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: "We do not enter a house in which there is an image or a dog."
