Abi Talib ordered him to ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a man who draws near to his wife and pre-ejaculatory fluid comes out of him: what is upon him? ‘Ali said: "For I have the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (as my wife), and I am too shy to ask him." Al-Miqdad said: "So I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he said: 'When any of you finds that, let him sprinkle his private part with water and perform ablution as he does for prayer.'"
