حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ وَتَصُومُ النَّهَارَ ؟ قُلْتُ: إِنِّي [لَا أَفْعَلُ] قَالَ: " وَلَا تَفْعَلْ، فَإِنَّكَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِكَ هَجَمَتْ عَيْنُكَ، وَنَفِهَتْ نَفْسُكَ، وَإِنَّ لِنَفْسِكَ حَقًّا، وَلِأَهْلِكَ حَقًّا، وَلِعَيْنِكَ حَقًّا، فَنَمْ وَقُمْ، وَصُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ

Translation

✧ “Was I not informed that you stand in prayer at night and fast during the day?” I said: “Indeed I [do not do that].” He said: “Then do not do it. For if you do that, your eye will become sunken and your self will become fatigued. Your self has a right over you, your family has a right over you, and your eye has a right over you. So sleep and stand, and fast and break your fast.”
