✧ The companions of Muhammad ﷺ, when one of them was fasting and the time of breaking the fast came, if he slept before breaking his fast, he would not eat that night or the next day until evening. Qays b. Sirmah was fasting, and when the time of breaking the fast came, he went to his wife and said: 'Do you have any food?' She said: 'No, but I will look for some.' She went to look for him, and he had been working that day, so sleep overcame him. His wife came and said: 'Woe to you!' He woke up, and when midday came, he fainted. That was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, and this verse was revealed: 'It has been made lawful for you, on the night of fasting, to go to your wives.' They rejoiced greatly, and he said: 'And eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct to you from the black thread of dawn.'
