✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became ill with the illness in which he died, Bilal came to inform him of the prayer. He said: 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, Abu Bakr is a tender-hearted man, and whenever he stands in your place he weeps and cannot manage it. If only you would order 'Umar to lead the people in prayer!' He said: 'Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer' - three times - 'for you are like the women of Yusuf.' She said: So we sent for Abu Bakr, and he led the people in prayer. The Prophet ﷺ then felt some relief and came out, supported between two men, his feet dragging on the ground. When Abu Bakr sensed him, he moved to step back, but the Prophet ﷺ gestured to him: 'Stay where you are.' He said: The Prophet ﷺ came and sat beside Abu Bakr. Abu Bakr followed the Prophet ﷺ, and the people followed Abu Bakr, ؓ. This is the hadith of Waki'. In the hadith of Abu Mu'awiyah, he said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting, and Abu Bakr was standing.'
