✧ Commanding the Blind to Attend Congregational Prayer Even If Their Homes Are Far from the Mosque

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ أَبِي حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ اسْتَقْبَلَ النَّاسَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ فَقَالَ: لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آتِيَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ، فَقَامَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا بِي، وَلَيْسَ لِي قَائِدٌ قَالَ: " أَتَسْمَعُ الْإِقَامَةَ ؟ " قَالَ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: " فَاحْضُرْهَا "، وَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَهُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ faced the people after the ‘Isha prayer and said: “I was on the verge of ordering those who stay behind from this prayer to have their houses burned upon them.” Ibn Umm Maktum stood and said: O Messenger of Allah, you know my condition, and I have no guide. He said: “Do you hear the call (iqamah)?” He said: Yes. He said: “Then attend it,” and he did not give him a concession.
