✧ An amir among the commanders sent me to Ibn ʿAbbās to ask him about the rain prayer. Ibn ʿAbbās said: What prevents him from asking me himself? The Messenger of God ﷺ went out humble, shabby, submissive, imploring, and prayed two rakʿahs as he prays in the Eid, and he did not deliver a sermon like this sermon of yours.

machine translation[The question of whether] the sermon was before the two rakʿahs or after them—he said: "I do not know." This indicates that Hishām did not memorize it.
