حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ:

سَأَلْتُ أَبَا حَنِيفَةَ، أَوْ سُئِلَ أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ، فَقَالَ: فَرِيضَةٌ، فَقُلْتُ - أَوْ فَقِيلَ لَهُ -: فَكَمِ الْفَرْضُ ؟ قَالَ: خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي الْوِتْرِ ؟ قَالَ: فَرِيضَةٌ، فَقُلْتُ - أَوْ فَقِيلَ لَهُ -: أَنْتَ لَا تُحْسِنُ الْحِسَابَ

Translation

✧ I asked Abu Hanifah—or Abu Hanifah was asked—about Witr, and he said: 'It is an obligation.' I said—or it was said to him—: 'How many are the obligatory prayers?' He said: 'Five prayers.' It was said to him: 'What do you say about Witr?' He said: 'It is an obligation.' I said—or it was said to him—: 'You are not good at counting.'
