✧ We were with al-Mughirah b. Shu'bah, and he was asked: 'Did anyone from this Ummah lead the Prophet ﷺ in prayer other than Abu Bakr?' He said: 'Yes. We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey...' Then he mentioned the hadith at length and said: 'Then we mounted and caught up with the people. 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf had gone ahead and had led them in one rak'ah, and he was in the second. I went to inform him, but he forbade me, so we prayed the rak'ah we caught up with—or made up the one that had preceded us.' Mu'ammal said: 'And we made up the one that had preceded us.'

machine translationI asked my father and Abū Zurʿah about a hadith narrated by Ibn al-Mubārak, from ʿAwf and Hishām, from Muḥammad b. Sīrīn, who said: ʿAmr b. Wahb informed us that al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah narrated to him from the Prophet ﷺ regarding wiping over the leather socks. My father said: Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī narrated it, in the narration of Ḥammād b. Zayd, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad, from Abū ʿAbdillāh, from ʿAmr b. Wahb, from al-Mughīrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. Abū Zurʿah said: Some of the companions of Ibn ʿAwn narrated it from Ibn ʿAwn, from Muḥammad, from ʿAmr b. Wahb, from a man, from another, from al-Mughīrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. I said to Abū Zurʿah: Which of the two is correct? He said: ʿAmr, from a man, from another, from al-Mughīrah.
