✧ He stood up in the two rak'ahs, and they glorified him, so he completed [the standing], then prostrated two prostrations of forgetfulness when he finished. Then he said: 'Did you see me sit? I only did as I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do.'

machine translationBayān b. Bishr and Ismāʿīl b. Abī Khālid narrate it from Qays. As for Bayān, Baqiyyah b. al-Walīd raised it (to the Prophet) from Shuʿbah, from Qays, from Saʿd, from the Prophet ﷺ, while Ghundar and others stopped it at the Companion (mawqūf) from Shuʿbah. As for Ismāʿīl, Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr raised it from him and gave it a connected chain (musnad), while Zāʾidah, Zuhayr, Hushaym, al-Muḥāribī, Ibn ʿUyaynah, Khālid al-Wāsiṭī, Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Marwān, Abū Ḥamzah al-Sukkarī and others stopped it at the Companion. The mawqūf version is the preserved one (maḥfūẓ).
