✧ The delegation of Banu Tamim came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said to them, "Rejoice, O Banu Tamim." They said, "You have given us glad tidings, so give us (something)." The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed. Then the delegation of the people of Yemen came, and he said to them, "Rejoice, O people of Yemen, since Banu Tamim did not accept the glad tidings."

machine translationAl-Aʿmash differed regarding which of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ this hadith goes back to. Al-Aʿmash mentioned that it was ʿImrān b. al-Ḥuṣayn, while al-Masʿūdī mentioned that it was Buraydah b. al-Ḥuṣayb. The correct view in our opinion is what al-Aʿmash said about it. What indicates this is that al-Thawrī narrated it from Jāmiʿ b. Shaddād, agreeing with al-Aʿmash and opposing al-Masʿūdī, even though he fell short of some of its text that is in their two narrations.
