أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

«لَقَدْ كَانَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ يَرَوْنَ ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْهُرٍ مَا يَسْتَوْقِدُونَ فِيهِ بِنَارٍ مَا هُوَ إِلَّا الْمَاءُ وَالتَّمْرُ وَكَانَ حَوْلَنَا أَهْلُ دُورٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ لَهُمْ دَوَاجِنُ فِي حَوَائِطِهِمْ فَكَانَ أَهْلُ كُلِّ دَارٍ يَبْعَثُونَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِغَزِيرِ شَاتِهِمْ فَكَانَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ ذَلِكَ اللَّبَنِ»

Translation

✧ The family of Muhammad ﷺ would see three months pass without kindling a fire in it—it was only water and dates. Around us were households of the Ansar who had domestic animals in their gardens. The people of each house would send to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ the milk of their best sheep, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had some of that milk.
