✧ The Virtue of the Ummah

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ أَنَّ سُحَيْمًا حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ رُوَيْفِعِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

قُرِّبَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَمْرٌ وَرُطَبٌ فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهُ حَتَّى لَمْ يَبْقَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا نَوَاةٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَا؟ » قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ «تَذْهَبُونَ الْخَيِّرَ فَالْخَيِّرَ حَتَّى لَا يَبْقَى مِنْكُمْ إِلَّا مِثْلُ هَذَا»

✧ Dates and fresh dates were brought near to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and they ate from them until none remained except a single stone. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «Do you know what this is?» They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: «The good will depart, then the good, until none of you remains except the like of this.»
