Sahih Ibn Hibban 6557

Translation

✧ We were at al-Mirbad when I saw a man with disheveled hair, in his hand a piece of leather. We said to him, "You seem to be a man from the desert." He said, "Yes." We said to him, "Hand us that piece of leather that is in your hand." We took it and read what was in it, and there was in it: "From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, to Banū Zuhayr: Give the fifth of the spoils, the Prophet's share, and the ṣafī. You are secure with the protection of Allah and the protection of His Messenger." He said, we said, "Who wrote this for you?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ." He said, we said, "Did you hear anything from him?" He said, "Yes, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: 'Fasting the month of patience and three days of every month remove the rancor of the chest.'" We said to him, "Did you hear from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" He said, "Do I see you suspecting me? By Allah, I will not tell you anything." Then he left.
