✧ When this verse was revealed: {And warn your nearest kindred} and your chosen clan among them—he said, and in the recitation of Abd Allah it is: "and your chosen clan among them"—the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out until he came to al-Safa and climbed it. Then he called out, 'O calamity of the morning!' The people gathered to him, some coming themselves and some sending a messenger. He ﷺ said, 'O Banu Abd al-Muttalib, O Banu Fihr, O Banu Abd Manaf, O Banu—tell me, if I informed you that cavalry were at the foot of this mountain wanting to raid you, would you believe me?' They said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Then indeed I am a warner to you before a severe punishment.' Abu Lahab said, 'May you perish for the rest of the day! Did you call us only for this?' Then he stood up, and {May the hands of Abu Lahab perish} was revealed, and he has indeed perished. They said, 'We have never known you to lie.'
