أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ الْعِجْلِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ
«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُومُ إِلَى جَنْبِ شَجَرَةٍ أَوْ جِذْعٍ أَوْ خَشَبَةٍ أَوْ شَيْءٍ يَسْتَنِدُ إِلَيْهِ يَخْطُبُ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذَ مِنْبَرًا فَكَانَ يَقُومُ عَلَيْهِ فَحَنَّتْ تِلْكَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقُومُ عِنْدَهَا حَنِينًا سَمِعَهُ أَهْلُ الْمَسْجِدِ فَأَتَاهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَإِمَّا قَالَ مَسَحَهَا وَإِمَّا قَالَ فَأَمْسَكْهَا فَسَكَنَتْ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand beside a tree, or a trunk, or a piece of wood, or something he leaned against while delivering the sermon. Then he had a pulpit made and would stand on it, and that thing alongside which he used to stand yearned with a yearning heard by the people of the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to it—either he said he stroked it, or he said he held it—and it became still.
