أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شِمَاسَةَ قَالَ
أَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ أَسْأَلُهَا عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَقَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فِي بَيْتِي هَذَا «اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمْرِ أُمَّتِي شَيْئًا فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَاشْقُقْ عَلَيْهِ وَمَنْ وَلِيَ مِنْ أَمَرِ أُمَّتِي شَيْئًا فَرَفَقَ بِهِمْ فَارْفُقْ بِهِ»

✧ I came to ʿĀʾishah to ask her about something, and she said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say in this house of mine: O Allah, whoever is placed in charge of any affair of my ummah and makes it difficult for them, make it difficult for him; and whoever is placed in charge of any affair of my ummah and is gentle with them, be gentle with him.'
