✧ I heard Maslama b. Makhlad while he was on the pulpit addressing the people, saying: “O people, do you not have in ʿaṣb (a type of cloth) and linen what suffices you from silk? Here is a man who will inform you from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Stand, O ʿUqba.” So ʿUqba b. ʿĀmir stood while I was listening and said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat in the Fire.’ And I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever wears silk will be deprived of wearing it in the Hereafter.’”
