Sahih Ibn Hibban 4873

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ performed 'Umrah in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and the people of Makkah refused to let him enter Makkah until he made a treaty with them that he would stay there for three days. When they wrote the document, they wrote, 'This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon.' They said, 'We do not acknowledge this. If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not have prevented you from anything, but you are Muhammad b. 'Abdullah.' He said, 'I am the Messenger of Allah, and I am Muhammad b. 'Abdullah.' He said to 'Ali, 'Erase "Messenger of Allah."' He said, 'By Allah, I will never erase you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the document, and he did not know how to write, so he ordered it to be written, and in place of "Messenger of Allah" he wrote "Muhammad." So he wrote: 'This is what Muhammad b. 'Abdullah has agreed upon: that he will not enter Makkah with weapons except the sword in its sheath, and he will not take out anyone who follows him, and he will not prevent any of his companions if he wants to stay there.' When he entered it and the term elapsed, they came to 'Ali and said, 'Tell your companion to leave us, for the term has elapsed.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ left, and the daughter of Hamzah followed them, calling, 'O uncle, O uncle!' 'Ali, ؓ, took her by the hand and said to Fatimah, 'Take care of your cousin's daughter,' and she carried her. 'Ali, Zayd, and Ja'far disputed about her. 'Ali said, 'I took her, and she is my cousin's daughter.' Ja'far said, 'She is my cousin's daughter, and her maternal aunt is my wife.' Zayd said, 'She is my brother's daughter.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ruled in favor of her maternal aunt and said, 'The maternal aunt is like the mother.' He said to 'Ali, 'You are from me and I am from you.' He said to Ja'far, 'You resemble me in appearance and character.' He said to Zayd, 'You are our brother and our client.'
