✧ Horses are for one man a reward, for another a covering, and for another a burden. As for the one for whom they are a reward, he is a man who ties them in the way of Allah and gives them a long rope in a meadow or garden. Whatever they eat within the length of their rope from that meadow or garden becomes good deeds for him. And if they break their rope and run a height or two, their tracks and dung become good deeds for him. If they pass by a river and drink from it, even if he did not intend to water them, that becomes good deeds for him. So they are a reward for him for that. And a man who ties them to be self-sufficient and to refrain from begging, and does not forget Allah's right upon their necks and their backs, then they are a covering for him for that. And a man who ties them out of pride, showing off, and enmity against the people of Islam, then they are a burden on him for that." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about donkeys and said: "Nothing has been revealed to me about them except this comprehensive and unique verse: 'So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it.'" (Quran 99:7-8)
