أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ وَوَكِيعٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا نِسَاءٌ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلَا نَسْتَخْصِي؟ «فَنَهَانَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ وَرَخَّصَ لَنَا أَنْ نَنْكِحَ الْمَرْأَةَ بِالثَّوْبِ إِلَى أَجْلٍ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تُحَرِّمُوا طَيِّبَاتِ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ وَلَا تَعْتَدُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ} »

✧ We used to go on military campaigns with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and we had no women with us. We said: O Messenger of Allah, should we not castrate ourselves? He forbade us from that and permitted us to marry a woman for a garment for a fixed period. Then he recited: {O you who believe, do not forbid the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not love the transgressors}.
