✧ We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as pilgrims until we reached Sarif, and I menstruated. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon me while I was crying, and he said, "What is the matter with you?" I said, "I wish I had not performed Hajj this year." He said, "What is the matter with you?" I said, "I have menstruated." He said, "This is something that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam. Do everything that a pilgrim does, except do not circumambulate the House." When we reached Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Make it an ‘Umrah." So they did that. Those who had not brought a sacrificial animal came out of iḥrām, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and some of his companions who were well off had brought sacrificial animals, so they did not come out of iḥrām. On the Day of Sacrifice, the Prophet ﷺ slaughtered a cow on behalf of his wives. I became pure, so I circumambulated the House and performed sa‘y. Then I returned to the Prophet ﷺ at Mina. When we departed, he sent me with my brother ‘Abd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Bakr from al-Muḥaṣṣab and said, "Take your sister behind you and have her perform ‘Umrah from al-Tan‘īm." So he took me behind him, and I entered iḥrām at al-Tan‘īm, circumambulated the House, and then returned to him, and we departed.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • إسماعيل بن إسحاق بن إسماعيل البصري

ادعى غيره أن هذا غلط من عروة وأن الصواب رواية الأسود والقاسم وعمرة عنها أنها أهلت بالحج مفردا

machine translationSomeone else claimed that this is a mistake on the part of ʿUrwah, and that the correct version is the narration of al-Aswad, al-Qāsim and ʿAmrah from her, that she entered the state of iḥrām for Ḥajj alone (ifrād).
