✧ ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar wanted to perform Hajj in the year al-Ḥajjāj besieged Ibn al-Zubayr. It was said to him: The people will be fighting, and we fear they may prevent you. He said: {Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example.} Then I will do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did: "I call you to witness that I have obligated ʿUmrah." Then he set out until he was at the outskirts of al-Baydāʾ, where he said: The matter of Hajj and ʿUmrah is but one matter. I call you to witness that I have obligated Hajj along with my ʿUmrah. And he sent forward a sacrificial animal that he had bought at Qudayd. He went on pronouncing the talbiyah for both together until he reached Makkah. He circumambulated the House and ran between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah, and did not do more than that. He did not slaughter, did not shave, did not trim, and did not exit from any state of iḥrām he had entered until the Day of Sacrifice, when he slaughtered and shaved. He then considered that he had fulfilled the ṭawāf of both Hajj and ʿUmrah with the first ṭawāf. And he said: This is what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did.
