✧ I sat with Ka‘b b. ‘Ujrah in the mosque and asked him about this verse: {A ransom of fasting, or charity, or sacrifice}. Ka‘b said: It was revealed concerning me. I had an affliction in my head, and I was carried to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while lice were falling on my face. He ﷺ said, “I never thought that hardship had reached you to the extent I see. Can you find a sheep?” I said, “No.” He said: Then this verse was revealed: {A ransom of fasting, or charity, or sacrifice}. The fast is three days, the charity is half a sa‘ of food for each poor person, and the sacrifice is a sheep.”
