أَخْبَرَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ الْبَلْخِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ وَعُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُمَا سَمِعَا حَكِيمَ بْنَ حِزَامٍ يَقُولُ
سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَعْطَانِي ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُهُ فَأَعْطَانِي ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ حُلْوَةٌ خَضِرَةٌ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِطِيبِ نَفْسٍ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِإِشْرَافِ نَفْسٍ لَهُ لَمْ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ وَكَانَ كَالَّذِي يَأْكُلُ وَلَا يَشْبَعُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى»

✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he gave me. Then I asked him again, and he gave me. Then he said: “This wealth is sweet and green. Whoever takes it with a good soul, it will be blessed for him in it; and whoever takes it with greed of the soul, it will not be blessed for him in it, and he will be like one who eats but does not become full. The upper hand is better than the lower hand.”
