أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ

«لَا يُفْتَحُ إِنْسَانٌ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بَابَ مَسْأَلَةٍ إِلَّا فَتْحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ بَابَ فَقْرٍ لَأَنْ يَعْمِدَ الرَّجُلُ حَبْلًا إِلَى جَبَلٍ فَيَحْتَطِبَ عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ وَيَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ مُعْطًى أَوْ مَمْنُوعًا»

Translation

✧ "No one opens a door of begging for himself, except Allah opens a door of poverty upon him. If a man takes a rope to a mountain, gathers firewood on his back, and eats from it, it is better for him than asking people, whether they give or refuse."
