أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ ابْنَ جُدْعَانَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانَ يَقْرِي الضَّيْفَ وَيُحْسِنُ الْجِوَارَ وَيَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهُ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ «لَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَقُلْ يَوْمًا قَطُّ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطِيئَتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ»

✧ I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Ibn Jud'an in the Jahiliyyah used to entertain guests, be good to neighbors, and maintain ties of kinship. Will that benefit him?" He said, "No, indeed he never said even one day: O Allah, forgive me my sin on the Day of Judgement."
