أَخْبَرَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ مُجَاشِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي زُهَيْرٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ الصَّلَاحُ بَعْدَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ {لَيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مَنْ يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ} وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عَمِلْنَا جُزِينَا بِهِ؟ فَقَالَ «غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَلَسْتَ تَمْرَضُ؟ أَلَسْتَ تَحْزَنُ؟ أَلَسْتَ تُصِيبُكَ اللَّأْوَاءُ؟ » قَالَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ «هُوَ مَا تُجْزَوْنَ بِهِ»

✧ O Messenger of Allah, how can there be righteousness after this verse: {It is not by your desires nor the desires of the People of the Book; whoever does evil will be recompensed for it}? And everything we do we are recompensed for? He said, 'May Allah forgive you, O Abu Bakr. Do you not fall ill? Do you not grieve? Do you not suffer hardship?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'That is what you are recompensed with.'
