✧ The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed, and the people with him. He stood for a long time, about the length of Surat al-Baqarah. Then he bowed for a long time. Then he rose and stood for a long time, but less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time, but less than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he stood for a long time, but less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time, but less than the first bowing. Then he rose and stood for a long time, but less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time, but less than the first bowing. Then he prostrated. Then he finished, and the sun had cleared. He said, “The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life. So when you see that, remember Allah.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something in your standing place, then we saw you step back.” He said, “I saw Paradise—or Paradise was shown to me—and I reached for a bunch of grapes. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it as long as the world remains. And I saw the Fire, and I have never seen a sight like today. I saw that most of its inhabitants were women.” They said, “Why, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Because of their ingratitude.” It was said, “Do they disbelieve in Allah?” He said, “They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for kindness. If you were to treat one of them kindly for a lifetime, then she saw something from you, she would say, ‘By Allah, I have never seen any good from you.’”
