Night Prayer

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

نَادَى رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ كَيْفَ تَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَ «يُصَلِّي أَحَدُكُمْ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى فَإِذَا خَشِيَ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى وَاحِدَةً أَوْتَرَتْ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى مِنَ اللَّيْلِ»

Translation

✧ A man called out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "How do you command us to pray at night?" He said: "One of you should pray two rak'ahs at a time, and if he fears dawn, he should pray one rak'ah, which will make odd for him what he has already prayed at night."
