✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, he stayed in the upper part of Madinah among a clan called Banu 'Amr b. 'Awf. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed among them for fourteen nights, then he sent for the leaders of Banu al-Najjar, and they came wearing their swords. Anas said: It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on his mount, with Abu Bakr riding behind him, and the leaders of Banu al-Najjar around him, until he dismounted in the courtyard of Abu Ayyub. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray wherever the time for prayer overtook him, and he would pray in sheepfolds. Then he ordered that the mosque be built, and he sent for the leaders of Banu al-Najjar, and they came. He said, "O Banu al-Najjar, sell me this wall of yours." They said, "No, by Allah, we do not seek its price; it is only for Allah." Anas said: There was in it what I am telling you: there were graves of the polytheists, date palms, and cultivated land. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that the graves of the polytheists be dug up, the cultivated land be leveled, and the date palms be cut down. They placed the date palms in the direction of the qiblah of the mosque and made its two side pillars of stone. He said: They began carrying that rock while reciting rajaz verses, with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with them, and they were saying: "O Allah, there is no good except the good of the Hereafter, so forgive the Ansar and the Muhajirun."
