✧ The obligatory congregational prayer and the excuses that allow skipping it

أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْأَرْقَمِ كَانَ يَؤُمُّ أَصْحَابَهُ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ يَوْمًا فَذَهَبَ لِحَاجَتِهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِذَا وَجَدَ أَحَدٌ الْغَائِطَ فَلْيَبْدَأْ بِهِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ»

✧ ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Arqam used to lead his companions in prayer. One day the prayer became due, so he went to relieve himself and then returned, and he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “When one of you feels the need to defecate, let him attend to it before the prayer.”
