أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ بِالْبَصْرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبِ بْنِ عَرَبِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَمِّعُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ

جَلَسْتُ إِلَى أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ فَجَاءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَقَالَ «اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو أُمَامَةَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ» ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا

Translation

✧ I sat with Abu Umamah b. Sahl, and the muezzin came and said: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar," and Abu Umamah said the like of that. Then he said: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah," and Abu Umamah said the like of that. Then he said: "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah," and Abu Umamah said the like of that. Then he turned to me and said: "Thus."
