✧ We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on one of his journeys until we were at al-Baydāʾ or Dhāt al-Jaysh. A necklace of mine broke. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stopped to search for it, and the people stopped with him, and they were not at a water source, nor did they have water with them. Some people came to Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq and said, “Do you not see what ʿĀʾishah has done? She has made the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the people stop, and they have no water and no water with them.” Abū Bakr reproached me and said what Allah willed him to say, and he began poking my side with his hand. The only thing that kept me from moving was the place of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained until morning without water, and Allah revealed the verse of tayammum, and they performed tayammum.
