✧ I was with ʿAbd Allāh and Abū Mūsā. Abū Mūsā said, “O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, a man becomes junub and does not find water—does he pray?” He said, “Do you hear what ʿAmmār b. Yāsir said to ʿUmar: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us, me and you. I became junub and rolled in the dust, then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him. He said, “This is enough for you,” and he wiped his face and his palms once.’” He said, “I did not see ʿUmar accept that.” He said, “How do you apply this verse? ‘If you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth.’” He said, “If we made it easy for them in this matter, one of them, when he found cold water, would wipe with dust.” Al-Aʿmash said: I said to Shaqīq, “He disliked it only for this reason.”
