✧ The Ghusl

أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَبِي النَّضْرِ مَوْلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ أَبَا مُرَّةَ مَوْلَى أُمِّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أُمَّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ تَقُولُ

ذَهَبْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَغْتَسِلُ وَفَاطِمَةُ ابْنَتُهُ تَسْتُرُهُ بِثَوْبٍ قَالَتْ فَسَلَّمْتُ فَقَالَ «مَنْ هَذِهِ؟ » قُلْتُ أُمُّ هَانِئٍ بِنْتُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَرْحَبًا يَا أُمَّ هَانِئٍ» فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْ غُسْلِهِ قَامَ فَصَلَّى ثَمَانَ رَكَعَاتٍ مُلْتَحِفًا فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ زَعَمَ ابْنُ أُمِّي عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رِضْوَانُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ قَاتِلٌ رَجُلًا أَجَرْتُهُ فُلَانُ ابْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «قَدْ أَجَرْنَا مَنْ أَجَرْتِ يَا أُمَّ هَانِئٍ» وَذَلِكَ ضُحًى

✧ I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of the conquest, and I found him performing ghusl while Fāṭimah, his daughter, was screening him with a cloth. She said: I greeted him, and he said: «Who is this?» I said: Umm Hāniʾ bt. Abī Ṭālib. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «Welcome, Umm Hāniʾ.» When he finished his ghusl, he stood and prayed eight rakʿahs wrapped in a single cloth, then he left. I said to him: O Messenger of Allah, the son of my mother ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib, ؓ, claims that he will kill a man whom I have granted protection, Fulān b. Hubayrah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: «We have granted protection to the one you have granted protection, O Umm Hāniʾ.» And that was at mid-morning.
