حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو مَرْيَمَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ:
انْطَلَقَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَتَى بِيَ الْكَعْبَةَ، فَقَالَ: اجْلِسْ، فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِ الْكَعْبَةِ، وَصَعِدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي: انْهَضْ بِي، فَنَهَضْتُ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى ضَعْفِي تَحْتَهُ قَالَ: اجْلِسْ، فَجَلَسْتُ فَنَزَلَ عَنِّي وَجَلَسَ لِي فَقَالَ: يَا عَلِيُّ، اصْعَدْ عَلَى مَنْكِبَيَّ، فَصَعِدْتُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِهِ، ثُمَّ نَهَضَ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا نَهَضَ بِي خُيِّلَ إِلَيَّ أَنِّي لَوْ شِئْتُ نِلْتُ أُفُقَ السَّمَاءِ، فَصَعِدْتُ عَلَى الْكَعْبَةِ، وَتَنَحَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ لِي: أَلْقِ صَنَمَهُمُ الْأَكْبَرَ صَنَمَ قُرَيْشٍ، وَكَانَ مِنْ نُحَاسٍ، وَكَانَ مَوْتُودًا بِأَوْتَادٍ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: عَالِجْهُ فَجَعَلْتُ أُعَالِجُهُ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ [لِي] [١]: إِيهِ، فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُعَالِجُهُ حَتَّى اسْتَمْكَنْتُ مِنْهُ، فَقَالَ: اقْذِفْهُ فَقَذَفْتُهُ وَنَزَلْتُ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with me until he brought me to the Kaʿbah. He said: "Sit." So I sat beside the Kaʿbah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ climbed onto my shoulders. Then he said to me: "Stand up with me." So I stood up with him, but when he saw my weakness beneath him he said: "Sit." So I sat, and he got down off me and sat down for me. He said: "O ʿAlī, climb onto my shoulders." So I climbed onto his shoulders, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up with me. When he stood up with me, it seemed to me that if I wished I could reach the horizon of the sky. So I climbed onto the Kaʿbah, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved aside. He said to me: "Throw down their greatest idol, the idol of Quraysh." It was made of brass, and was fixed with iron stakes in the ground. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "Work on it." So I began to work on it while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was saying [to me]: "Go on!" I kept working on it until I gained control of it. He said: "Hurl it down." So I hurled it down and I climbed down.
