I came to Abū ʿUbaydah b. al-Jarrāḥ, and he lodged me in a corner of his house, while his wife was in another corner, and a curtain was between us. He would milk the she-camel, then bring the vessel and place it in my hands. A man from among the Ṭulaqāʾ said to him: "Do you lodge this man in a corner of your house with your wife?" He said: "I am watching through him the caravan of one who, if I were to meet him stripped bare, would wait patiently for every mount."
