Some people from [1]Iraq came to ʿUmar, and he saw that they were eating as though making excuses. He said: "What is this, people of Iraq? If I wished, I could have my food made delicately soft for me as it is made for you, but we save from our worldly life what we will find in our Hereafter. Have you not heard what Allah said: ﴿أَذْهَبْتُمْ طَيِّبَاتِكُمْ فِي حَيَاتِكُمُ الدُّنْيَا وَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهَا﴾"
