حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ أَبِي يَحْيَى
أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ زَيْدٍ وَكَانَتْ عَيْنُهُ أُصِيبَتْ بِالسُّوسِ قَالَ: حَاصَرْنَا مَدِينَتَهَا، فَلَقِينَا جَهْدًا وَأَمِيرُ الْجَيْشِ أَبُو مُوسَى وَأَخَذَ الدِّهْقَانُ عَهْدَهُ وَعَهْدَ مَنْ مَعَهُ، فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى: اعْزِلْهُمْ، فَجَعَلَ يَعْزِلُهُمْ وَجَعَلَ أَبُو مُوسَى يَقُولُ لِأَصْحَابِهِ: إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ يَخْدَعَهُ اللهُ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ، فَعَزَلَهُمْ وَبَقِيَ عَدُوُّ اللهِ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ أَبُو مُوسَى، فَفَادَى وَبَذَلَ لَهُ مَالًا كَثِيرًا، فَأَبَى وَضَرَبَ عُنُقَهُ

The dihqān took a covenant for himself and for those with him. Abū Mūsā said: 'Separate them out.' So he began to separate them out, and Abū Mūsā began saying to his companions: 'I hope that Allah will deceive him about himself.' So he separated them out and the enemy of Allah was left. Abū Mūsā gave orders concerning him, and he offered a ransom and gave a great deal of money, but he refused, and he struck off his neck."
