machine translationIbn ʿUlayyah narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilābah, who said:

When ʿUthmān was killed, speakers stood up in Īliyāʾ (Jerusalem). Among the last of them a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ stood up, called Murrah b. Kaʿb, and said: "Were it not for a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I would not have stood. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a tribulation (fitnah) – I think he said: and he described it as near – then a man passed by, covered with his head-cloth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'This man and his companions on that day will be on the truth.' So I went and took hold of his shoulders, and turned his face toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: 'This one?' He said [1]: 'Yes.' And it was ʿUthmān."
