شَهِدْتُ الْحَسَنَ وَمَالِكَ بْنَ دِينَارٍ وَمُسْلِمَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ وَسَعِيدًا يَأْمُرُونَ بِقِتَالِ الْحَجَّاجِ مَعَ ابْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ: إِنَّ الْحَجَّاجَ [١]عُقُوبَةٌ جَاءَتْ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ، فَلْنَسْتَقْبِلْ [٢]عُقُوبَةَ اللهِ بِالسَّيْفِ
